Unit 2: Energy Unit (10/9-11/6)
How does energy move through living things?
In this unit, we will learn about the processes that living things use to store and release energy. Then we will look at how energy is transferred from one organism to the next in food chains.
Energy ProcessesPhotosynthesis: storing energyPlants and some bacteria can convert carbon dioxide and water into sugars using the sun's energy.
Respiration: releasing energySome organisms like us need to do aerobic respiration where we "burn" sugar in the presence of oxygen to release the stored energy.
Anaerobic respiration & fermentationOther organisms do not need oxygen to get the energy out of their food.
Matter vs. EnergyHow does each move differently through living things?
